Born in Milan in 1929, Rodolfo Bonetto left a successful career as a jazz drummer to pursue industrial design. He established his own studio in 1958 and went on to design across an exceptionally wide range of industries, creating everything from machine tools, clocks, and lighting to ski boots, surgical lasers, and automobiles.
Largely self-taught, Bonetto approached design with a strong focus on practical application and played an important role in the development of industrial design education, contributing to teaching at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm and later at Isia in Rome.
Throughout his career, Bonetto received eight Compasso d’Oro awards, including one recognizing his lifetime contribution to design. He died in Milan in 1991, leaving behind a diverse and influential body of work.
