After graduating in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic, Sergio Asti opened his own studio in 1953, becoming one of the first Italian industrial designers and a founding member of the ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Many of the objects he designed are now part of the collections of prestigious design museums around the world. For FontanaArte, he designed Daruma, a blown glass table lamp, which has been in the catalog since 1968. From the outset, he has also been very active in the design of public and private buildings, interiors, and exhibitions, including the Fiat showroom (Milan, 1964), the FISI Presidential Offices (Milan, 1976), and the installations for numerous temporary exhibitions at the Triennale, La Rinascente, and Eurodomus. He has taught at the Istituto Superiore d’Arte in Venice and the Istituto Sperimentale Superiore in Shizuoka, Japan.
