José María Reina

José María Reina was a multifaceted, self-taught designer from the generation that elevated Barcelona to a global reference for industrial design.
His multidisciplinary work spanned furniture, watchmaking and jewellery, and he is best known for having fused these disciplines to create a new concept of the wall clock — where timekeeping becomes a design statement.
Reina believed that the everyday object, like a clock, could be elevated to an object of prestige and distinction in homes, offices and public spaces. His work is defined by minimalist formal rigor, the use of noble materials and a clear architectural sensibility.
With his pieces, the wall-clock ceased merely to mark time and became a sculptural object; the essence of his practice lies in transforming utility into elegance, creating designer accessories that engage both the eye and the mind.
