Ludovica & Roberto Palomba, the golden couple of Italian design, have been designing products that escape trends for over 25 years. Theirs is above all a philosophical approach: the search for the essence in each project, closer to the concept of balance of oriental cultures than to the Nordic style, the goal of their work is not only an aesthetic result but well-being. A courageous design, without inconsistencies, equidistant from decorativeism and radical minimalism, the result of a selection of values and themes rather than a reduction project. Organicity (organic form) and orthogonality, inconsistent worlds that have been able to make dialogue, for example in the world of the bathroom which recognizes them as absolute protagonists.
A design, theirs, which aims to bring the greatest number of people closer together, it is no coincidence that their research has mostly focused on industrial mold products and serial production, for a more democratic vision, but they do not consider it a crime a search for that part of the artisan tradition that can preserve and pass on the culture of Italian know-how, confirming their nature, dualistic and curious. Theirs is a mature and controlled sign, which coherently links very different projects, where every function, every form, every aesthetic is transversal in a temporal dialogue from one object to another from one company to another, a deconstructed vocabulary that generates a free lexicon because, as they claim, “No freedom can prevent that of others” In 25 years they have investigated practically all types of furniture, dressing functions with emotion without ever being repetitive despite being recognizable.
Their products are born to last, not only on the market but above all as companions, silent and faithful in the life of the people who choose them, this is the key to their success, the ability in a world that screams and desperately seeks to be recognized, the willingness to abstract oneself, to give lasting happiness and well-being, participating by right in the rites of daily life. “It would be easier for us to use decorations and rhetorical figures rather than investigating grace” say Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, their attitude to design over the years has influenced many areas and has recently landed in architecture, nautical and contract following the bulimic curiosity that has never left them. They have received numerous international awards and recognitions such as the Compasso D’Oro, the Elle Decoration International Design Award, the Red Dot, the Design Plus, the Good Design Award, the German Design Award; they collaborate and are art directors for some of the most established brands.
