Born in Oita-Ken, Japan, Hatano studied Interior design in Osaka Art University. In 1972, he left for Europe and worked with NATUZZI (Italy), designing several sofas that were exhibited during the Furniture show in High-Point, USA where his recliner armchair was published in the New York Times. He opened his own HATANO DESIGN STUDIO in Tokyo in 1991. Since then, he has been also working with Kosuga Co. Ltd. Japan on contemporary and classic furniture.
Throughout his career, he has been designing for big brands around the world, including Weiman (USA), Calia (Italy), Mariner (Italy), Constantini (Italy), Natuzzi (Italy), Zuinisi (Italy), Grassoler (Italy) and Naos (Italy).
