Description
This head sculpture draws its inspiration from the Aphrodite of Menophantos, a marble figure from the 1st century BC housed in the National Roman Museum, capturing the goddess of love and beauty at the height of classical idealization. The serene composure of her features, framed by softly rendered hair, reflects an aesthetic that has shaped notions of beauty across centuries.
Reproduced in aged-effect plaster, the piece balances delicacy and presence — smooth facial contours, a composed expression, and subtle movement in the hair all speak to the technical refinement of ancient sculpture. A light surface patina lends the sculpture an authentic sense of age, deepening its character without overstating it.
The base pairs powder-coated steel with a full leather wrap and contrast hand stitching, setting a contemporary counterpoint against the classical figure above. Well suited to refined residential settings, private galleries, or any space drawing on the language of Greek antiquity, this piece brings quiet elegance and mythological weight into the room. Handmade in Italy.
Product Care: This piece calls for gentle care. Clean the leather base only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with mild soap and water, then dry gently — avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Natural variations in tone and markings are distinctive features of the leather and will develop a unique patina over time. For routine dusting, the Vèlle Soft Brush Duo is available as an optional accessory.
