Description
This head sculpture takes its likeness from the celebrated portrait of Plato held at the Glyptothek in Munich, one of antiquity’s most enduring images of philosophical authority. The contemplative gaze, austere features, and carefully rendered beard capture the gravity associated with the philosopher whose thinking still underpins much of Western thought.
Cast in aged-effect plaster, the piece reproduces the formal precision of the original portrait while carrying a surface treatment that suggests centuries of wear — a patina that lends the sculpture an air of genuine antiquity rather than mere reproduction. Every line in the face has been rendered with the same restraint and dignity found in classical Greek portraiture.
