Description
This head sculpture reproduces the figure of Silenus, the wise and weathered companion of Bacchus, as depicted in the marble group “Silenus with the Infant Bacchus” held at the Uffizi Gallery and dated to the late 16th century. His bearded, grape-crowned likeness carries both mythological gravitas and a distinctly human warmth, rendered here with unusual sculptural complexity.
Cast in aged-effect plaster, the piece captures the intricate detail of the original — the fluid, layered curls, the textured foliage, the sense of quiet movement running through the whole composition. A carefully applied patina evokes the noble wear of time-worn marble, giving the reproduction real depth and authenticity.
